Filipe Albero Pomar, engineering manager in London

Filipe Albero Pomar

Engineering Manager and developer · London

I've been the engineering manager and I've been the product manager. That's what lets me say what we're building, why, and if it's worth doing.

News, streaming, energy trading, virtual reality, logistics, in organisations from a startup to one with over 20,000 people. I've taken progress and risk to the CPO and CTO, and once worked around the technical limits of Apple News to get a newsroom into its launch.

Working software with no business impact means nothing. One product I designed and built added 4% to revenue.

The unglamorous part of the job is individuals, one at a time, and then whatever is going on between them. I once took over a failing team of nineteen, and nobody left in a year.

I grew up in Brazil, spent a school year in Alaska as an exchange student, and went to Italy and Spain on a scholarship. London has been home for a while now.

AI is on its way to being a commodity. When everyone has the same tools, the real advantage is the people, and how well they work together.
